The journey takes the reader across London and across time. It illuminates on the traditions and customs that shaped the markets through their rich history and embellished them with masterpieces by renowned architects. It presents the modern image, fuelled by globalisation and commercialisation. It accentuates the significance of the demographics in defining their future.

The little treasure trove is not a guide with addresses and numbers. Instead, it is a companion that paints a unique picture of a selection of markets from a perspective of a Londoner, who spent decades observing the transformations.

***** by Cindy Topps, Goodreads

If you`re bored with traditional travel guides, and appreciate the out-of-the-ordinary, then reach for this lovely little gem of a book, in poetry, one in a series, featuring London destination sightseeing – it affords a quite different and useful perspective, also bringing bygone history to life. This volume details the world metropolis` venerable, iconic, exciting marketplaces, enhanced with atmospheric illustrations, highlighting the at times gritty verse, even more; it literally has you deeply inhaling for the scents, and straining your ears for the sounds of the stalls, as you feast your eyes on the sights. You will visit colorful markets -several, many centuries old- from all sections of the city, nineteen, in all, each beckoning you to slow down and really open your hearts to the experience: sadly, they are transient in nature – not all of them will survive indefinitely… A thoughtful gift for the London-bound, and a wonderful memento for yourself, after the fact.
